Implant Dentistry

Dental implants are widely considered the gold standard for replacing missing teeth — and at Family Dentistry of Texoma in Wichita Falls, the entire implant process can be completed right here in our office.
What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Over time, the bone fuses with the titanium through a process called osseointegration, creating a stable, permanent foundation. A custom crown is then attached on top, restoring the appearance and function of the missing tooth.
Because the implant functions as an artificial root, it preserves the jawbone in a way that dentures and bridges cannot. Without a root to stimulate it, the bone beneath a missing tooth gradually resorbs and shrinks over time. Implants prevent that process and help maintain the natural structure of your jaw and face.
What Dental Implants Can Do
- Replace a single missing tooth without altering the teeth on either side
- Support an implant-supported bridge to replace multiple missing teeth
- Anchor a full or partial denture for greater stability and comfort
- Restore chewing function and the confidence to eat, speak, and smile normally
Implants vs. Bridges and Dentures
Bridges and dentures have long been the standard options for replacing missing teeth, and they remain appropriate solutions for many patients. However, implants offer advantages that other restorations cannot match:
- Bone preservation. Implants stimulate the jawbone with every bite, preventing the bone loss that occurs under bridges and dentures over time.
- No impact on neighboring teeth. A traditional bridge requires grinding down the healthy teeth on either side of the gap. An implant stands on its own.
- Stability. Implants do not shift, click, or require adhesive. They function like natural teeth.
- Longevity. With proper care and maintenance, the implant itself is designed to last a lifetime. The crown on top typically lasts 15 to 20 years before it may need replacement.
Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Most healthy adults are candidates for dental implants. The key requirements are sufficient jawbone volume to support the implant, healthy gum tissue, and no uncontrolled conditions that affect healing. Patients who have been told they do not have enough bone are often still candidates after a bone grafting procedure, which our team can also perform in-office.
The best way to find out whether implants are right for you is a consultation. We will evaluate your bone and gum health, discuss your goals, and give you a clear picture of what treatment would involve — including timeline and cost — before you commit to anything.
